Worrying details emerge on the shooting of Philomena Mwilu’s driver

Details have now emerged on a worrying incident where e Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu’s driver was shot and seriously injured along Nairobi’s Ngong Road.

The driver, identified as Titus Musyoka, had just dropped Mwilu at her Karen home and was reported to have gone shopping for some flowers meant for use at his boss’ rural home.

While parked along opposite Impala club, the trained bodyguard noticed two gunmen who were approaching him – prompting him to draw his pistol.

It was at this point that the boda boda rider, who had remained atop his motorcycle, issued a chilling order.

“He shouted at them saying, 'Maliza yeye' (finish him),”a witness narrated.

Unfortunately, before Musyoka could grab his gun, he was shot once in the mouth and twice on his chest after which his gun was taken away.

It remains unclear the events that followed since flower attendants on the busy road had scampered for safety.

Police officers handling the case are yet to establish the attack that came a day before the Deputy Chief Justice could preside over a sensitive case regarding the repeat presidential election.

“Unless there is something else, this seems to have been a hit squad that pursued him from a distance. They could also be thugs who saw an opportunity after spotting the Toyota Prado on the roadside,” an officer was quoted by The Standard.

Senior government officials including Chief Justice David Maraga his deputy Mwilu, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General Joseph Boinett visited the driver at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital where he underwent a surgical operation to remove a bullet in his chest.
