Revealed: The main reason that forced Commissioner Roselyn Akombe to resign

IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe has disclosed the main reason she resigned.

News broke on Wednesday morning that IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe had resigned 8 days to the fresh presidential election.

In an exclusive interview with a local station, Akombe disclosed that her life was in danger as one of the compelling reasons she quit the electoral commission before opting to silently go to the US.

The commissioner was heading to Dubai to monitor the printing of ballot papers but made a U-turn and flew to New York where she issued her resignation letter.

She also revealed that apart from security concerns, she could no longer be part of the electoral body since it was a "divided commission".

Akombe added that other Commissioners came to preliminary meetings ready to vote along partisan lines and not discuss contentious issues.

"It has become increasingly difficult to appear on television to defend positions I disagree with in the name of collective responsibility. I have concluded that I am no longer making any significant contribution to the Commission and to my country as a Commissioner," she stated.

She stated that the electoral body as currently constituted could not hold a credible election.

"Not when the staff are getting last minute instructions on changes in technology and electoral transmission of results. Not when in parts of the country, the training of presiding officers is being rushed for fear of attacks by presiding officers," she adds.
