Ezekiel Mutua in another Court Battle with Local Brewers

KFCB won a case in the High Court on the same last year

The Kenya Film Classification Board Chief Executive Ezekiel Mutua is in another court battle with Local brewers.

In a post on his Facebook page, Mutua revealed that KFCB had court orders barring the Brewers from making alcoholic drinks adverts during the day in a bid to protect children from harmful content.

“We argued that there was need to protect children from exposure to harmful content and that beer and alcoholic drinks adverts were not suitable for the watershed,” said Mutua.

He added that the board was ready to challenge the breweries on any legal battle in order to have the orders upheld.

Khalif Kairo and his former business partner Clement Kinuthia are locked in a heated exchange of accusations, with Kairo now alleging that Clement not only cheated on his wife but also had an affair with his (Kairo’s) girlfriend. The car dealer also revealed that he is currently single, but will introduce a new lady once he resolves the issues surrounding his business.

“Now the brewers are here again fighting to have the orders quashed. They won't win. Just like the Digital Migration case, we will fight this battle in courts and through any other possible way. We will not relent until there is sanity in our media and kids are protected from exposure to adult content,” read his post.

He assured that he will not stop talking about it and that they will reach out to everyone to ensure that the children are protected.

This comes after the Brewers moved to court to appeal a decision that would have advertisements go through the KFCB for approval.

The Alcoholic Beverage Association of Kenya through their lawyer Peter Wanyama argue that the Film and Stage plays law is vague, which is what led to the High Court’s decision.
