Meet President Uhuru Kenyatta's DJ who is confined to a wheelchair

26-year-old Barare Ogeto aka Deejay Euphorique is among lucky Kenyans who have managed to mingle with the head of state in their line of work.

The talented Deejay, who is confined to a wheelchair works at state House as the official DJ for President Uhuru Kenyatta whenever he has an event.

Ogeto, who has been hired to Deejay at State House, reveals that he got the opportunity through Uhuru’s man Big Ted.

In an interview the Standard, Ogeto opens up about his breakthrough in his Deejaying career that saw him land at State House.

In 2016, Ogeto was invited for the launch of gospel artist Daddy Owen’s album ‘Vanity’ at the Carnivore Restaurant grounds. Celebrities present decided to hold an impromptu fundraiser to buy him a spinning machine.

According to Ogeto, State House Director for Brand , strategy and Events Big Ted, who was the Emcee took over the initiative and in less than 20 minutes they had collected Sh500, 000.

 However, in December 2017, Big Ted invited Ogeto to State House for an event to celebrate orphans and thats when the President promised to work with him henceforth.

"That chance opened many other opportunities for me. It was a dream come true for me. At the time I realised that despite the challenges I had faced, God was preparing me for greater heights,” he says

Ogeto earns between Sh60,000 and Sh120,000 for a single event.His first performance was at Kenyatta International Convention Centre in 2014, courtesy of the United Nations.

Asked on how got himself on a wheelchair, he says “I was diagnosed with chronic knee disease, which meant I would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of my life,” he adds.

He also added thats his condition made people to hesitate in giving him a chance to learn Deejaying back in the days.

“For the simple reason that I was disabled, the people in charge at various local deejay academies refused to offer me a chance,” he recalls.
