Being a second wife is no longer as frowned upon as it was in the past and more beautiful and financially independent women are becoming more inclined to it.

Some of our favourite celebrities have also joined the second wives club proving that at the end of it all love really does conquer it all – at least for most of them.

Here is a list of the Kenyan celebrities that have been married as second wives.

1. Suzanna Owiyo

The singer is someone who likes to keep her private life away from the limelight so she surprised many when she revealed that she has a teenage daughter and had been happily married as a second wife for 16 years. “I have been married to Mr Ounga Oguda as a second wife for a period of sixteen years now. I have a 14 year-old daughter.” Suzanna confessed to SDE.

2. Lillian Ng’ang’a

Alfred Mutua was initially married to Josephine Thitu Maundu before they broke up and Josephine moved to Australia with their children. The divorce would have been a silent affair were it not for an unpleasant fracas over matrimonial property and their children.

Alfred then went on to move on with a pretty young thing called Lillian Ng’ang’a who worked as an air hostess at Kenya Airways before quitting to pursue business. The two started off as friends before Mutua convinced her that he was the man for her.

3.Esther Passaris

This Nairobi Women Rep aspirant is the mum to Makena Maria and Lefteris Ngugi a.k.a Lefty whom she has from her marriage to renowned coffee farmer and Kenya Nut Company billionaire Pius Mbugua Ngugi.

During an interview on KTN, Passaris shocked many when she revealed that she was the second wife in a polygamous setup. In the interview, Passaris said “I’ve been very vocal and honest about my relationship. I’m in a polygamous setup. It’s not something that I’m proud of but neither is it something that I’m ashamed of. You kind of learn to balance the two. It is the situation that I’m in and I’ve got to accept it.”

4.Yvonne Okwara

The ALI Bloomberg Fellow and KTN news anchor wed veterinarian Dr Andrew Matole in a hush-hush wedding held at Nairobi’s Crowne Plaza hotel.

Mr Matole was previously married to Alice Manyola Matole and the couple had three children Linda, Faith and Emmanuel. It was alleged by Kahawa Tungu that Yvonne and her husband Andre had to change the wedding venue several times over fears that the ex-wife would storm the venue.

Since the wedding the Matoles have not had any drama and are happily married.

5. Mwanaisha Chidzuga

The K24 news siren is married as a second wife to Danson Mungatana who was also married to Cecilia Mwangi before their split. However, Mwanaisha denied being a co-wife to Cecilia by tweeting “Kindly note that I Mwanaisha Chidzuga was never a co-wife to one Cecilia Mwangi. Please stop dragging my name and that of my family into this madness.”

She then went on to reveal that Mungatana and her were happy together even amidst all the hate and controversy his split with Cecilia had brought. “Hapa mapenzi tu...wenya shingo za feni jipeni shughuli (It’s all about love here, the jealous ones should find something to do other than poking their nose in my business).
