Catholic believers’ faith is yet to be tested after 2018’s Valentine Day collides with Ash Wednesday; a day of fasting, it is the first day of Lent in Western Christianity.

Valentine’s Day popularly referred to as the lovers day is celebrated every 14 February.

Valentine's is a festival of romantic love and this day, many people give cards, letters, flowers or presents to their spouses and fiancées. They may as well arrange for a romantic meal in a restaurant or night out in a hotel. Valentine’s is mostly with represented symbols of hearts, red roses and Cupid.

Ash Wednesday occurs every 46 days before Easter and can fall as early as February 4 or as late as March 10. Ash Wednesday is a special day for the Roman Catholics and is strictly Consented to by many Western Christians, including Anglicans, Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists.

Philip Anyolo, the Chair Kenya Conference of Catholic bishops and other religious leaders associated with the catholic religion have urged the Catholics to focus on Ash Wednesday since it is an important day for the Catholic Church.

“It is a tricky time for the Church. These two day that have different philosophies coincide. So Christians have to be careful on what they give prominence”, Anyolo said.

This is happening for the first time in 73 years, a unusual happenstance occurs: Valentine’s Day falling on the same day with Ash Wednesday.

Apparently 1 April a day popularly known for fooling around, ‘Fools day’ will fall on Easter. It is clearly is a year to test the faith of Christians.
