Beaded braids have been around since 2017 and they’re still stylish.
There are many ways you can rock the style depending on the look you want to achieve. You could for instance have lengthy box braids or short braids or half cornrows half braids. The style options are limitless. One thing for sure though is, adorning your braids with decorative beads or cowrie shells for instance is one way to look authentic.
Kenyan naturalista and natural hair blogger and vlogger, Sheila Ndinda has always been a source of inspiration when it comes to natural hairstyles. Not only does she share different gorgeous protective hairstyles for natural hair babes but also shows us how to achieve them and gives us tips on how to take care of natural hair.
Sheila loves to rock braids sometimes, especially when she’s hitting the beach for a vacay with her girls. One of the styles we have seen her rock so well is the beaded braids. For this style, she went for medium length braids with mid-part cornrows at the front. For the beads, depending on the kind of beads you want, you can get them from Maasai market, (for the Maasai beaded ones), Instagram shops that sell accessories as well as downtown shops in Nairobi's Dubois street in the CBD. You definitely need a lot of beads to achieve this style and for it to look good. However, if you do not want many beads, you can choose to have say one bead per braid for a more subtle look.
