Kiambu Man Was Conned 500k before Killing Wife and 3 Children

A Kiambu man killed his wife and 3 children before killing himself after he fell prey to con artists on an investment.

The man identified as Partrick Nderitu Karuru committed suicide after he lost half a million shillings and set his house on fire.

According to Nderitu’s sister-in-law Lydiah Mueke, he did what he did out of frustrations having been conned Sh500,000 a week earlier.

Tender contract

The conmen had promised to award him a tender contract to supply building materials and they asked him to deposit the Sh500,000 to a bank account and that they would later double the amount to 1 Million to guarantee him the contract.

“He had been borrowing money from friends to raise the amount needed and he managed to and sent it only to realize that he had been conned,” she said.

The police suspect that Nderitu killed his family before burning himself up and they have launched investigations into the incident.

“We cannot tell what made the man kill his wife and children, then himself. We haven’t recovered anything that could give us leads,” said Juja Police Commander Patricia Nasio.

Charred remains

The night fire on Nderitu’s house was seen by a boda boda rider who was heading home from work. He woke up neighbours and the area Chief Muchiri Mwiruri who helped stop the fire.

Nderitu’s body was found badly burnt on the floor of the house while the bodies of his wife and children covered in blood and were partly burnt in their respective rooms.
