Kenyatta National Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr Lily Koros was on Friday March 2, 2018, sent on a compulsory leave by the Health CS Sicily Kariuki.

The directive took effect immediately pending investigations into the mistaken surgery conducted on a patient two weeks ago.

The Kenyatta National Hospital blunder caused uproar on Thursday night after a doctor conducted a brain surgery on a wrong patient.

The CS has apologised for blunder at the facility, promising to take a stern action.

"I apologise over patient mix-up at KNH, I have directed that KNH CEO be sent on compulsory leave until probe is over," CS Kariuki has said.

Meanwhile, KNH Director of clinical services Dr Benard Githae has also been sent on a compulsory leave in the latest crakdwon.

Dr. John Ong'ech and Thomas Mutie will be taking over in an acting capacity as investigations into the surgery mix up incident  get underway.

Massive complains

Kenyans on Thursday evening through Friday expressed great outrage after reports hit headlines that Kenyatta National Hospital doctors had conducted a brain surgery on the wrong patient.

The incident was first brought to light by NTV in an investigative piece. Shortly after the news aired the embattled CEO admitted of the mess-up, and suspended members of the staff responsible for the surgery.

According to Ms. Koros there was a mix-up of patients leading to a brain surgery being performed on the wrong patient.

Kenyans on social media castigated KNH with many expressing their fear of seeking medical services at the largest referral hospital in the country.
