“Right now you are seeing the government withdraw security details for Mr Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, unleashing Mungiki on innocent demonstrators in the streets of Nairobi and the president himself vilifying and trying to undermine the Judiciary because they ruled against him,” they said in a joint statement, as quoted by a local daily.

They added: “The situation in Kenya right now as we speak is very tense and fragile. That’s why we are having events this coming Saturday in New York and New Jersey to bring attention to these issues while celebrating the historical ruling that has made Kenya a harbinger of democracy in Africa.”

The one-hour event, which will begin at 11 am on Saturday (US time), the organisers have said, will also culminate in a fundraiser for Nasa campaigns ahead of the repeat polls slated for October 26.

The US-based team has also urged the State to reinstate former Prime Minister’s security details, adding that as a presidential candidate; he deserves security at all times.

“A presidential candidate is a president in waiting, he must be protected. That is why we, members of Nasa USA condemn the ignorant action by the Jubilee administration to withdraw security detail of the Nasa presidential candidate, Mr Raila Odinga and his running mate Mr Kalonzo Musyoka,” the statement signed by Mr Jack Ambuka of New Jersey read in part.

Mr Odinga on Thursday announced that his team will be leading demonstrations on Mondays and Fridays to purge out IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and 11 other staff members at the commission in a bid to levelise the play field for the repeat polls.

In the recent past, Mr Odinga said that “there shall be no elections” if the coalition’s irreducible minimums which include changing the printer of the ballot papers are met by the Wafula Chebukati led commission.
