The One Mistake Igathe made before resignation – Mutahi Ngunyi

Controversial political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has theorised the one mistake Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp made when before he announced his resignation, which will take effect on January 31, 2018.

In his analysis, Mr. Ngunyi poked holes on the reasons Mr. Igathe listed as what led to his drastic move.

On Friday evening Mr. Igathe shocked Kenyans when he stated that he will be resigning from his position as the Deputy Governor of Nairobi.

He revealed that among the things that led to him to resign is lack of trust between him and Governor Mike Sonko.

Igathe claimed that he has failed to earn the trust of Governor Mike Sonko to enable him to serve the people of Nairobi as promised during campaigns.

“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018.” Read his letter.

In his analysis, Prof Ngunyi claimed that Igathe made a mistake when he looked for trust between him and Governor Sonko.

According to the political scientist, the former Vivo Energy managing director should have established common interests with the flamboyant Governor.

“The Currency of POLITICS is Not TRUST. It is common INTERESTS. Trust is for GIRLS, if you are a BOY. Polycarp should not have asked for Sonko's TRUST. Sonko is NOT a Girl. He is a TH*G,” he said.

Political leaders and pundits also expressed their opinions on Igathe’s resignation with a section opining that it was a wrong decision.

“Resigned because you failed "to earn the trust of the Governor"???..in other words, you failed to become a loyal factotum? Polycarp Igathe should be court marshaled for unlawful desertion...total betrayal of the electorate,” lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi said.

Makueni Senator Mutala Kilonzo on his part mentioned that the resignation was expected.

"Igathe’s resignation is hardly surprising. Governor Sonko will serve for the remainder of the term without a deputy unless the cartels are planning an impeachment .Constitutional amendments to address the Nyeri and Nairobi county dilemma are inevitable," he said.
