Siaya Senator James Orengo on Tuesday night revealed how the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga at Harambe House will benefit self-declared NRM General Miguna Miguna.

Speaking during Citizen TV’s Big Question, Mr. Orengo divulged that Miguna, who was deported to Canada under controversial circumstances, will be returning back to Kenya as part of the deal made.

The Senior Counsel claimed that Miguna’s return was among the conditions set for President Kenyatta and the former Prime Minister to work together.

"Miguna’s return is part of the conditions of the Uhuru-Raila deal. In fact, on Friday I am going to see the Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) because they were directed by the court to make sure that facilities are created for Miguna’s entry into the country," he said.

The newly elected Senate Minority leader noted that the Opposition is firmly behind Mr. Miguna and was fighting legal battle to make sure he returns.

Raila swearing-in

The Canadian-based lawyer was deported to Canada after taking part in the controversial swearing-in of Mr. Odinga as the People's President on January 30, 2018, at Uhuru Park.

The NASA leader resolved to take the oath of office in a bid to push President Kenyatta-led Government to hold talks with the Opposition over the much-disputed General Election.

After the oath-taking ceremony, several Opposition leaders were arrested including Miguna and Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang. Others had their passports revoked and security details were withdrawn.

Uhuru-Raila deal

However, on March 9, 2018, Mr. Kenyatta and Odinga held a closed-door meeting at Harambee House where they resolved to work together.

In a presser Mr Odinga said: "We have resolved that the future our nation is more important than any sole individual".

At the same time Mr Kenyatta mentioned: We have a responsibility as leaders to be able to come together to discuss these issues and to find solutions that will bind our people, that will unify the country, that will give us a lifecycle that is beyond the five [election] years”.
