Sonko nominates Miguna Miguna as Deputy Governor

Sonko in an interesting twist forwarded Miguna's name to the Speaker of Nairobi's County Assembly.

Governor Mike Sonko has nominated Miguna Miguna as Nairobis next Deputy Governor.

Through a letter to the Speaker of Nairobi's County Assembly Beatrice Elachi, Sonko forwarded Miguna's name for full vetting and approval for the position of Deputy Governor.

"The nominee meets all the requirements provided for in the constitution, the leadership and integrity act, the elections act and the county government act," the letter reads in part.

Miguna was expected in the country today but postponed it saying he was forced to cancel his flight after the Immigration Department refused to cooperate with KNCHR.

Sonko on Monday was given a seven-day ultimatum by Nairobi opposition MCAs to nominate a Deputy Governor.

The MCAs claimed that Nairobi County was a "mess" because the governor lacked a deputy to advise him.

Sonko in March unveiled a short list of 22 prominent personalities as possible replacements for his ex-deputy governor Polycarp Igathe.
