Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has issued a rare warning to Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 race.
Ruto has declared his intentions to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta once the head of state finishes his second and final term in office.
However Kabogo has warned Ruto saying that the Mt Kenya voters are not wheelbarrows who will be forced to vote for him come 2022.
Kabogo for President?
“We are not political wheelbarrows to be pushed right, left and centre by anyone. We are all here to see, keep your eyes open. The game has just started,” Kabogo stated as quoted by SDE.
While addressing locals in Thika Town, the former governor maintained that Kenyans will elect a leader of their choice adding to speculation that he will throw his hat in the ring for the State House race in 2022.
The statement comes after his main rival Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu endorsed Ruto for the country’s top job in 2022.
Blamed DP
Kabogo later sensationally linked DP Ruto to his loss to Waititu in the August 8 gubernatorial race.
Last year, Kabogo controversially told Ruto not to expect automatic support from the Mt Kenya region in his bid to succeed Kenyatta as president in 2022.
A clip shared widely on social media, showed Kabogo saying should Ruto should not expect “our” support unless there is development in the region.
A similar statement made by Kabogo in the same year was harshly criticised by leaders from both the Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions.
