Minutes after being sacked as the Senate Minority leader, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula has warned Raila Odingas ODM that the NASA "divorce will be noisy and messy".
The Bungoma Senator was on Thursday removed by a motion fronted by 16 Nasa senators who managed to release him with his Siaya counterpart and lawyer James Orengo.
"If anyone wants to divorce it will be noisy, messy, and unhelpful and it will have causalities. I'm not going anywhere. I was not invited to NASA but I'm a founder," Wetang'ula said.
Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka told Senators that he had received a letter from Minority Whip Mutula Kilonzo informing him of the decision, which was allegedly crafted by Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Orengo to replace Wetangula
The Speaker, however, told NASA to ensure that it procedurally elects Orengo to the position before the switch can take effect.
"The removal of Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Senate Minority Leader though valid, stands suspended and will not take effect unless and until a Senator has been elected by the NASA Coalition in the manner provided by Standing Order 20(1) has occurred and the communication to that effect together with the minutes evidencing that decision has been made in writing, to my office by the Senate Minority," speaker Lusaka ruled, after 16 ODM senators signed the petition to oust Wetang'ula.
Senator Judith Pareno said Wetangula's election was a gentleman's agreement, not legally binding. She said ODM is only taking what is rightfully theirs.
However, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua said ODM cannot purport to fire a leader they did not hire. He said NASA will remain even if ODM bolts out.
Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang said the decision to boot Wetangula is premised on the need to have a strong leadership in the Senate.
