Siaya Senator James Orengo on Wednesday came under fierce attack after a tweet in which he was gloating over the victory in a case challenging the victory of Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o during the August 8 General Election.
Mr. Orengo, who was representing Nyong’o in the case filed by Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, was elated when the High Court dismissed the petition.
“Victory! Successfully represented Kisumu Governor in a petition filed against him that was dismissed by the High Court in Kisumu” he tweeted.
Double standards
In his argument before the court, Orengo stated that the election of Mr. Nyong’o was in accordance with the Constitution.
After posting his victory message, the Senior Counsel was heavily criticized with some alleging that he was speaking out from both sides of his mouth.
A section of the public wondered how Orengo would argue that Nyong’o’s election was conducted fairly yet he was on record during the presidential petition insisting that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) carried out a flawed process.
The Siaya Senator, who represented NASA leader and presidential candidate Raila Odinga during the petition, has on several occasions reiterated that the August 8 Election was marred by irregularities and illegalities.
Congratulations
Those condemning the lawyer demanded him to declare that the August 8 General election was free, fair and credible.
However, some who were supporting Orengo noted that the Gubernatorial and Presidential elections were totally different. They went on to congratulate him for the victory.
