3 hidden details in Raila's meeting with Mzee Moi

New political alliance?

Odinga's communication team have since explained that the visit was meant to check on the health status of the former President.

Moi had recently been discharged from hospital.

Despite the rather innocent explanation, there were heavy political undertones in the Kabarak "handshake".

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

Odinga was accompanied by close political allies including Vihiga Senator George Khaniri and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir.

Nassir was recently awarded the powerful position of Chairperson of the Pbublic Investments Committee while Khaniri has been in Odinga's good books over his active role in the January 30th swearing in ceremony.

Host delegation

On hand to receive Odinga were a number of politicians allied to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Gideon's individual presence would not raise much attention but there was also Jubilee rebel MP Silas Bowen who has recently fallen out with Deputy President William Ruto.

KANU Secretary General Nick Salat and Baringo Central MP William Kamket are some of Gideon's political allies - another signal that the meeting could introduce a new political coalition.

Timing

It does not help matters that the meeting between the NASA leader and the Mois has come in the wake of the famous unity deal between the Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Whether Gideon and Raila are working on a political coalition to checkmate Ruto - only time will tell.
