What Raila's legal team said after the elections were nullified

The Supreme Court of Kenya has just declared the Elections 2017 null and void.

This is after presidential candidate Raila Odinga of the opposition party NASA filed a petition to object the results as announced by the Independent Electoral Boundaries and Commission’s (IEBC) chairman, Wafula Chebukati.

Speaking after the Judge’s decision Raila Odinga’s lead Counsel James Orengo applauded the Court for the well manner in which they conducted the whole process. The first petitioner said he had accepted the judgement of the court. Today our petitioners have accepted the decision of the court.

He went on to assure the court that it’s decision that differs from precedent as set by former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga where the election petition in 2013 April was thrown out, does not belittle the people’s trust in the law system of Kenya.

He said, “As wise as the court was in 2013, the court is as wise as it was then and therefore we respect the decision of the court.”

When speaking to the press he went on further to state that they are grateful for the decision as it was well determined.

Also at the Supreme court, Ekuru Aukot agreed with the sentiment stating that this is historical event in the country. “Kenya will never be the same again,” he said.

He also stated that the IEBC chairman and his team must be investigated and should not go unpunished for the irregularities stating that they should also never be allowed to conduct the elections again.
