NASA MPs elected to head powerful parliamentary committee

NASA MPs have been elected to head the powerful Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in parliament.

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi was on Monday elected the PAC Chairman while his Kibwezi East counterpart Jessica Mbalu vice chair was elected as the vice chair.

Wandayi who was the front runner garnered 15 votes against Amani National Congress (ANC) Nambale’s Sakwa Bunyasi who received 3 votes.

The leadership of the House powerful PAC and the Public Investments Committee is left as a reserve of the opposition in parliament.

Both PAC and PIC are watchdog committees in the National Assembly.

However, Jubilee will maintain its majority representation in the watchdog committees.

Last month, NASA's National Resistance Movement's (NRM) parliamentary wing submitted its House leadership members to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

In the list, Suba South John Mbadi (ODM) was appointed as Minority Leader with Suna East MP Junet Mohammed (ODM) as the Minority Whip.

Mohamed in parliament is deputised by Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya while Mbadi is deputised by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui of Wiper.

In the Senate, NASA listed Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula (Ford Kenya) as Minority Leader and is deputised by his Siaya counterpart James Orengo (ODM) with Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior (WIper) named as Minority Whip.

Kilonzo is deputised by Petronila Were of the Amani National Congress.
