Self-proclaimed President of Comedy in Africa and philanthropist Eric Omondi has kicked of the year 2025 with a charity initiative seeking to raise funds for the construction of a classroom for children in Kapoo area of Turkan County.

The philanthropist was moved by the plight of the children who have to learn under the scorching sun and unforgiving heat while still competing with others learning in favourable conditions.

A video shared by the philanthropist on his Instagram account shows children sitting on the ground under the scorching sun.

Due to lack of basic supplies and stationery, the learners are seen using their fingers and sticks to write on the ground, highlighting the dire situation and their relentless quest to defy the odds and acquire an education.

Plight of children in Turkana

Their ordeal is worsened by the fact that the children have to walk several kilometers barefoot to access the education provided by a volunteer teacher.

This is Kapoo in Turkana County. These young ones learn in this scorching Sun barefoot…They are forced to walk several Kilometers to access Education through this Volunteer Teacher. They have no books and are forced to write on the ground. How are they supposed to compete fairly?

Omondi revelaed that his initiative not only aims to construct a classroom for the learners, but also to purchase books, uniforms, pens and shoes.

We are going to build a classroom for them tomorrow and buy them books, uniforms, and shoes.
