New report reveals how much money Jubilee spent to win August election

A report prepared by Reelforge Systems has now offered a rare insight into the world of political communication in Kenya.

Reelforge analysed the amount of money spent on advertising by all the leading political parties in Kenya, starting from January 1st to August 8 2017 when the general election was held.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's party, Jubilee, was the leading spender with a budget of Sh312,141,620 while NASA came in second with Sh155,153,840.

Perhaps to suggest that political advertising works, Jubilee won the August 8 election even though the presidential poll was later to be annuled.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's Maendeleo Chap Chap came in a distant third with a budget of Sh1,812,300.

Generally, most of the political parties spent 57 percent of their advertising budget on radio while television received 35 percent.

The report prepared by Reelforge showed that Jubilee advertised on most TV channels while NASA's strategy involved using a single TV stations where all their ads were concentrated.
