Since her big break in October 2015, Kenyans have been obsessed with comedian Stella Bunei Koitie better known by her stage name Jemutai.
The comedienne from Elgeyo Marakwet has carved a niche for herself in a male-dominated industry due to her humorous jokes delivered in a nonchalant way and the ‘Chibambe’ phrase which has become her signature statement.
During an interview on Radio Jambo’s ‘Waliobobea', Jemutai revealed that her entrance into comedy was inspired by Teacher Wanjiku and David the Student on Churchill Live.
“I used to watch them on Churchill Live and I found their performances to be very interesting and inspiring. They cultivated my interest in comedy and since then, it is what I always wanted to do.” She said.
To remain memorable a lot of comedians have a signature look and for Jemutai it’s a checked dress, black polo and headscarf or a frumpy jacket and her gourd of mursik.
But as it turns out Jemutai can clean up nice!
