National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday disclosed the demands he made to President Uhuru Kenyatta before the two finally agreed to shake hands at Harambee house on March 9, 2018.

Speaking to Kakamega residents after addressing the 5th Annual Devolution Conference in the county, Mr Odinga said that the first demand was that the dialogue had to be between two people, himself and Mr Kenyatta, who represented the Jubilee side.

"After I took the oath they said that we need to talk. I told them dialogue is important but we have to talk about all the issues affecting the country and they agreed.

"But I told them that  the dialogue should involve two people. Uhuru on one side and Raila the other," he said.

The NASA leader highlighted five other areas he wanted to be discussed before the now famous handshake.

"I told him (Uhuru) the warring issues are electoral theft, tribalism in employment, corruption, devolution and security," Odinga said.

The former Prime Minister insisted that he won the August 8 General Election and defended his controversial oath as the People’s President on January 30, 2018 at Uhuru Park.

"The handshake came only after we agreed to end our differences and work together on a cause that will see a united Kenya. We wanted to first have an agreement between the two of us. Uhuru represented Jubilee and I represented NASA," the Opposition leader said.

Odinga urged residents to support the handshake noting that it was impossible to wait on the sidelines until 2022 General Election.

He added that the next poll would be fruitless if electoral reforms were not handled early.
