Nasa flagbearer Raila Odinga has promised a special reward to Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo if he returns to ODM.

Raila said Midiwo (who is his cousin) is more like a younger brother to him and said he will offer the Gem MP a plum job should he return to the fold once Nasa sweeps to power and the Opposition becomes president.

“I want Midiwo to remain and support the party. If we take power, he will be given a lucrative position,” the ODM leader said.

Midiwo, the National Assembly deputy minority leader, was handed an embarrassing defeat during the recent ODM primaries by Siaya politician Elisha Odhiambo.

Odhiambo garnered 13,400 votes against Midiwo’s 8,900 votes.

However, Midiwo disputed the results saying that the nominations were not free and fair and cited massive irregularities in the process.

Midiwo accused Raila’s brother Oburu Odinga of having a hand in his defeat as well as the chaos witnessed in the party’s Migori Kisumu and Siaya primaries.

Midiwo also claimed Oburu’s brother rigged in his cronies, locking out the electorates’ preferred candidates.

The Gem MP later ditched ODM and affirmed he would vie as an independent during the August polls but his support for Raila remained firm.

Raila has accorded Midiwo special treatment while discrediting other independent candidates in his Nyanza stronghold.

On Monday, Raila accused Rarieda MP and Siaya Independent candidate Nicholas Gumbo of using money and other goodies to bribe voters instead of giving them long-term financial projects.
