Nairobi Gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna on Friday surprised the country when he appeared before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) with a new running mate.

The Canadian-based lawyer fronted Karen Wanjiku Wagenye-Oruko as his running mate noting that it was strategic for him to make the abrupt change.

A few days ago, Miguna had announced that he would be vying alongside a 24-year-old former Laikipia University student identified as James Gathungua.

However, while speaking to journalists at the KICC, where he was presenting his nomination papers, he mentioned that his former running mate was just a 'decoy' to throw off his enemies.

"My initial running mate was a decoy to throw cartels off guard," he said.

Ms Wanjiku is a 29-year-old, a former student at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).

The business woman graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor degree Sociology.

Miguna was cleared on Friday morning by IEBC to contest against incumbent  Governor Evans Kidero, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
