The foundation of a good relationship is built on love, trust and mutual respect.

But sometimes partners lie to each other for different reasons.

The most obvious reason why a partner would lie is to avoid getting in trouble but there are more complicated reasons.

Some partners find that they have to manipulate their partners so as to maintain the illusion of control. They lie and get their spouses to do what they want.

A pathological liar will lie even when they don't have to. They will lie to get their partners off their backs. They will lie simply because their partner trusts them and they can get away with anything.

Some people will lie to their lovers so as to avoid any situation that would lead to a fight. They would do anything to get out of a confrontation even if it means breaking their partner's trust.

4. Shame

Lovers don't like feeling beneath or intimidated by their partners. To save face, they will lie so as to make sure their shame is never known.
