Gideon Moi declines to join Uhuru’s cabinet

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has now officially declared that he would not join President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet.

Moi spoke after widespread reports indicated that Kenyatta was considering nominating him to cabinet – a move that was reported to have caused tension between the President and his deputy William Ruto.

On Tuesday, Moi stated that he had not been offered a position in cabinet, but added that he would not be interested in such an appointment.

"I am not playing any role in making of the cabinet, I was elected as Senator for Baringo and I'm doing my work. I have not been offered a cabinet position and if I'm offered I won't take it,” Moi stated.

The Star on Tuesday reported that the Baringo Senator was promised two cabinet slots which he might to pass on to his close allies.

The names of Moi’s relative, Kiprono Kittony, and KANU Secretary General Nick Salat have been mentioned in the list of potential nominees.

The former President’s son spoke after he was elected unopposed as the Senate ICT Commitee chairperson. He will be deputised by nominated Senator Halake Abshiro
