IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has requested the NASA brigade led by Raila Odinga to call off the planned protests slated for Tuesday.
In the letter addressed to NASA, Chebukati urged the Opposition to cancel the demos and allow the electoral body to engage them and Jubilee on Wednesday with regard to the issues they had raised concerning the presidential election.
"We write to request that you put off the planned protests to enable the joint consultative meeting. We look forward to your positive response," Part of the letter by Chebukati read. The electoral body has invited both parties for negotiations to iron out issues of concern. In a rejoinder, NASA has turned down the request. Addressing the press, NASA co-principal Moses Wetanfula insisted that the demos will go on as planned.
"IEBC has failed to address our demands. We’re going to demonstrate at IEBC offices," the Bungoma senator said. NASA leader Raila Odinga over the weekend announced that the protests are meant to eject IEBC commissioners from office.
The Opposition has maintained that IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba must leave office ahead of the fresh presidential election.
