Over the weekend, two Moi University students Lucy Kamau and Isaac Mureithi held a beautiful Swahili-themed wedding in Uasin Ngishu County.
Residents of the county where the students are based (they are in Moi University) marvelled at the ostentatiously decorated wedding, the brides’ Swahili makeup and henna and the pomp and glamour that accompanied the wedding which is usual for Coastal weddings. They were then left in shock upon learning that the two had divorced an hour after their wedding which cost a whopping 100, 000 Kshs.
This was however not your typical wedding, it was a mock wedding. To be specific it was a practical exam for their Tourism and Hospitality course which they are both pursuing as fourth-year students and the wedding was a requirement to fulfil their degree.
Speaking to E Daily, the Tourism and Hospitality lecturer Dr Korir said that the practical exams would prepare her students for the future as their career will involve planning events. She then went on to add that the wedding recourses would not go to waste as the wedding set up and the venue was on offer for any lovebirds that want to tie the knot but are not financially endowed.
