Larry Madowo in huge fight with Nation CEO

Flamboyant journalist Larry Madowo on Wednesday morning had a major confrontation at a Nation Media Group (NMG) staff meeting presided over by the companys CEO Joe Muganda.

The meeting was organised by the company's management to resolve house matters, including a pending mass sacking.

The tense meeting took a dramatic turn after Madowo started a war of words with NMG's bosses over independence and the media house's ability to protect its employees.

The NTV news anchor was particularly agitated that the company had not taken any meaningful action to protect Justus Wanga - a Nation reporter who faced threats from Deputy President William Ruto's press secretary David Mugonyi.

It did not help matters that the management was considering scrapping Madowo's column on the Daily Nation.

Sources who were at the meeting, and who spoke to Pulselive.co.ke, confirmed that the confrontation was one of the most charged in the company's recent history.

"Larry told them if they are not interested in independent journalism, they should just close the media house and make it a PR shop," the source revealed.

Dubbed FrontRow, the outspoken journalist uses the column to raise various issues including offering candid criticism of the current government.

The column had last week criticised Interior CS Fred Matiang'i - much to the chagrin of some powerful figures in the NMG boardroom.
