President Uhuru Kenyatta’s niece Nana Gecaga has opened up on some of the opportunities she missed as a result of alcohol addiction.

Nana, who is currently the KICC Managing Director, admitted that alcohol had blocked her dreams of becoming an Olympic atheletes.

She was not only passionate about athletics, but she was highly talented to the point that she qualified for the 1996 Olympics.

Unfortunately, as fate would have it, she found herself trapped in the mires of alcohol addiction before she finally underwent rehabilitation.

"The person you see here today has had many lives before who I am today. My passion was actually sports. I was a very big athlete back in the day, and I actually qualified for the '96 Olympics".

"My first year at the university in America was very rocky, and that is where everything fell apart. I was an addict of alcohol but I was able to go to rehab and from there, it's been 19 years without drinking,” Nana recalled during an interview with a local radio station.

Despite missing out for a career in athletics, Nana picked herself up and started building a career that has seen her become the head of the most reputable conferencing institution in East Africa.

Nana’s mother, Jeni Gecaga, is a daughter to Kenya’s founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta – and one of the most accomplished women athletes of the 1960s.
