Trouble for Waiguru days after being sworn in

Barely days after being sworn in as Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru has already run into trouble with another elected official from the county.

Kirinyaga Woman Representative-elect Purity Wangui Ngirici has accused Waiguru of disrespecting her.

According to the Daily Nation, the woman rep said Waiguru had refused to recognise her despite being the governor's mentor when she joined politics.

Ngirici disclosed that she and her husband were the ones who persuaded Waiguru to join politics and that they funded her campaigns.

"After sacrificing too much to have Ms Waiguru elected, she is now turning against me," she lamented.

Ngirici also explained the apparent disrespectful nature of the governor is what made her not attend Waiguru’s inauguration earlier this week.

She said she skipped the ceremony after learning that some people had been organised to heckle her.

"My intelligence informed me that there was a plan to humiliate me once again and that is why I failed to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Ms Waiguru," she revealed.

The Woman rep further disclosed that she was heckled by Waiguru supporters when she was pronounced the winner by the county returning officer after the August 8 polls.

"Respect is two-way traffic and if Ms Waiguru does not respect me as as a duly elected leader or as her mentor, then I will not also recognise her," Ngirici declared.

According to her, Waiguru fears her because she is the most popular politician in the region.

"I received more votes than any other politician in the region and Ms Waiguru knows very well that I’m the most popular political leader," Ngirici retorted.
