EACC detectives are pursuing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s former bodyguard Billy Arocho after he was allegedly recorded soliciting a bribe.
Arocho, who is also a board member of the Athi Water Services Board, was accused of demanding money to shield a Chinese businesswoman from an ongoing crackdown on counterfeit goods.
The businesswoman, who owns Mega Décor Interiors Ltd and a godown along Mombasa Road, negotiated and the amount she was supposed to pay came to Sh3 million.
Unknown to Arocho, Ma was secretly recording the conversation after which she took the tapes to the EACC.
The anti-corruption agency spokesman, Yassin Amara, was quoted by the Star, indicating that the agency was combing through evidence before arresting Arocho and his accomplices.
Arocho was appointed to the Athi Water Services Board after many years of serving as President Kenyatta’s civilian bodyguard.
