The decision by president Uhuru Kenyatta to nominate a section of Cabinet secretaries from Western Kenya has not gone done well with Jubilee party officials in Busia.
Led by Busia County Assembly Minority leader Felix Omanyi, the leaders appreciated the slots that the president had given the region but urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to appoint more cabinet secretaries and senior officials from the region.
The leaders noted that given how big the government is, more people from the region should be appointed to top government jobs.
"As much as we appreciate the appointment of our very own Namwamba, Rashid Echesa from Mumias, and Eugene Wamalwa, we need more since the government is big." Omanyi said.
He urged the president to “consider and give us (Western) two-three more appointments from this region".
The leaders also defended Ababu Namwamba who has come under criticism with a section of Busia residents equating his position to that of an office messenger.
Namwamba was appointed to the newly created Chief Administrative Secretary slot in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Busia is largely an opposition turf and prominent politicians who vied on Jubilee affiliate parties lost in the recent general elections.
Those swept by the strong opposition wave include Ababu Namwamba and Paul Otuoma.
