Former IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe has returned to work.

Akombe has resumed her duties at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

She had previously worked for the UN at the secretariat in New York as a political advisor before she took leave and travelled to Kenya to take up the job at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as a commissioner.

The former IEBC commissioner confirmed her resumption of duties at the UN.

“Yes, I’m back at my old job but I’m prohibited from talking to the press. This was contained in the new contract I signed recently,” she told the Nation.

She disclosed her frustrations over numerous calls and hate-mails that were being sent to her bosses at the UN by some Kenyan officials both in the US and back at home who wanted her sacked for allegedly  ‘betraying’  her country.

Akombe however, also indicated that she was getting a lot of support from her bosses and former colleagues and was confident of resuming her job.

Akombe shocked Kenyans after she resigned from her position at IEBC less than a week to the repeat elections and fled to the US.

She maintained she did not want to take part in a flawed process and also cited fears for her life as the reasons for her to resign and flee the country.

"The commission in its current state can surely not guarantee a credible election on October 26. I do no want to be party to such a mockery to electoral integrity," she said.
