The 28th edition of Koroga Festival went down over the weekend at the Bomas of Kenya, with Congolese Soukous Master Kanda Bongo man and Queen of Congolese and African Rumba M'bilia Bel headlining day two of the event.
Due to the heavy downpour that was witnessed in the Capital City on Saturday, day two of Koroga Festival was moved indoors to the main auditorium at the Bomas of Kenya.
The Iconic Kanda Bongo man gave a memorable 1 hour performance alongside his band that spiced up the night prompting Soukous lovers to sing along to his songs.
Kwassa kwassa dance rhythm
Kanda performed songs like; Sweet Elizabeth, Billi, Monie, Muchana, Tika Kolela among others.
Kand Bongo man gained popularity back in the days, after his form of Soukous gave birth to the Kwassa kwassa dance rhythm, where the hips move back and forth while the hands move to follow the hips.
Veteran media personality Leonard Mambo Mbotela got the opportunity to invite Kanda on stage. He (Kanda) went ahead to recognize the presence of Radio Citizen’s Fred Obachi Machoka, who he described as a big booster of Congolese music in Kenya.
Queen of Rhumba M'bilia Bel
On the other hand, the Queen of Rhumba M'bilia Bel did not disappoint despite spending only 50 minutes on stage.
Ms Bel, who rose to fame after being discovered by Sam Manguana and later by Tabu Ley Rochereau performed songs like; Nakei Nairobi, Eswi Yo wapi, Nadina, Boya Ye, Beyanga, Maboly na Ngai wana among others.
M'bilia Bel became successful in the early 1980s when she joined the Tabu-ley Rochereau's band, and since then she has used her powerful soprano-voice to entertain the world.
Steve Kay
Also on the performance list of Day two, was legendary Luhya singer Steve Kay who proved to the Koroga crowd why he is regarded the best performer from Western Kenya (Bungoma).
Steve carried the crowd with tunes like; Mulongo, Mai, vindu vichenjanga, Mbe Mkhasi, Khalinjola, Kamang’u, just but to mention a few.
Emma Jalamo
Another act was Emmanuel Odhiambo, popularly known as Emma Jalamo who represented well Ohangla lovers at Koroga Festival.
Emma demonstrated why he is ranked among best live acts in the world of Ohangla.
Performing on the first day of the festival were; Boondocks Gang, Nviiri the storyTeller, Ben soul, Rico Gang, Dj Dii, Dj Joe Kisila and DJ Joe Mfalme.
Kui Kabala was the hosted of Day two while Neville and Miss Mandi hosted day one of Koroga Festival.
