“I almost quit music”- Vanessa Mdee

East African queen of music Vanessa Mdee has revealed that she contemplated quitting music last year.

The singer made the revelation when she spoke to Kiss 100’s breakfast show duo Shaffie Weru and Adelle Onyango during her album launch tour in Kenya.

The ‘Money Mondays’ album creator revealed that her biggest challenge was when she got arrested and spent seven days locked up in police cells on mere allegations, and this is what made her think about quitting music.

"So last year, I got into a little situation where I was remanded for an accusation. At some point I was like its funny when a woman is successful or is deemed an achiever, it has to be attached to something that's negative,” she said.

Vanessa said that the arrest broke her heart and made her keep away from the studio for a while as she kept thinking of whether she should continue with her music career or not.

“I don't understand why people thought I wasn't doing legit music or I was dealing in other things. It broke my heart a little bit. I didn’t' go to the studio for a while after. I was like what is it for? All this hustling and then someone comes and tells you aah!! Wewe ni mkora,” she said.

The singer also revealed that she did the album because she wanted to have a project that she had done and had successfully completed as an artiste.
