President Uhuru Kenyatta has requested Big Ted to organize a State House meeting, with Kenyan Musicians to chat the way forward for the Play Kenyan Music Initiative and the future of the music Industry.
Speaking during Bruce Odhiambo’s burial, the Head of State expressed his willingness to meet with Kenyan musicians for the second time to know what has been derailing the industry.
During the burial of the late Joseph Kamaru in October 2018, Uhuru had also requested to meet with stakeholders in the music Industry to put in place structures that will see musicians earn well from their talents.
Bring them to State House
“Arrange and bring them to State House if that is what you want so that we can talk and discuss the future of the music industry in the country,” said President Kenyatta.
However, the president told artistes that should Big Ted fail to put together a meeting between him and stakeholders in the music Industry, he won’t take the blame.
“And if he doesn’t it’s his fault, not mine, si ni namna hiyo , tumekubaliana” added President Kenyatta.
Play Kenyan Music initiative
Uhuru’s sentiments comes at a time when the Play Kenyan Music initiative has consumed the better part of this month, with artistes led by Khaligraph Jones and NaiBoi appealing to Kenyan Radio and TV station to allocate more airplay to local content.
The debate was ignited by Papa Jones who offered to fly top Media Personalities to Nigeria to gauge if they have fans there due to their habit of always playing Nigerian Music.
Other artistes joined the discussion stating that the radio industry in Kenya is dominated by Bongo and Nigerian music, as presenters tend to undermine local songs.
