A mother was jailed for prostituting her toddler for sex. In an incident that sparked uproar from both local citizens and the international media, the woman was roundly castigated for such a heinous act.

The mother from Houston, Texas, was accused of offering to sell her 2-year-old daughter for sex at a cost of Sh 1.2 million.

25-year-old Sarah Marie Peters pleaded guilty to charges including promoting prostitution. She was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

'Have fun'

According to court documents, Peters posted photos of her daughter on a social media site and asked if there was anyone who wanted to “have fun” with her.

An undercover agent in Montgomery County responded and expressed interest in paying to have sex with the toddler.

The undercover agent arranged for Peters to bring her daughter to him and she agreed.

Custody

Police said that the mother boarded a bus in Houston with her daughter to travel to Conroe, where she thought she would meet a man who would pay her to have sex with the young child.

When they arrived, the mother was arrested and her daughter was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
