Jazz at Lincoln Center to Program Its First International Festival

The event’s official title will be the 2019 Saint Lucia Jazz Festival Produced in Collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, and it will feature multiple performances from each of five artists in residence: bassist Christian McBride, vocalist Ledisi, trumpeter Etienne Charles, bassist Russell Hall and saxophonist and clarinetist Patrick Bartley.

Other performers will include U.S.-based vocalists Gregory Porter, Dianne Reeves, Catherine Russell and Somi, as well as a number of artists based in the Caribbean.

The festival, now entering its 28th year, will run from May 5-12, and will take place at locations across the scenic island. The festival will also include educational events and performance opportunities for grade-school students at the Saint Lucia School of Music.

Though it has never before programmed an entire festival abroad, Jazz at Lincoln Center — which is guided by trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, its artistic director, and has a budget of roughly $50 million — is no stranger to international concert presenting. For years it ran a jazz club at the St. Regis Hotel in Doha, Qatar, and it now maintains a venue in Shanghai.
