Parents who have just had a child, especially first time parents always get a lot of attention.
Well-wishers, happy relatives and friends always show up bearing gifts, advice or assitance.
However, before you pay new mums a visit, there are a few things you should know.

1. They are exhausted
New parents often undergo sleep deprivation. They are usually very exhausted by the fact that the baby is fussy, and probably constantly cries.
2. The body hurts
For the mum, almost every body part hurts. The vagina, breasts, and general C-section scar area, back aches, abdominal cramps etc.
3. If you're coming over to help then help
New mothers wouldn't turn this down. Grab a load of laundry and assist, clear the dishes. Find a way to reduce her load.
4. New mums are highly emotional
They are exhausted, hormonal, have anxiety over the new baby. Be willing to listen and supportive whenever you encounter them.
5. If they want advice, they'll ask for it
People often view themselves as founts of knowledge even though they may not necessarily be. New parents will be overwhelmed by how much they need to change or have already changed in their lives. If every know-it-all walks in with their version of knowledge, it can be overwhelming for them. If they do things differently, don't make comments about it.
