Ezekiel Otuoma’s mother  was full of praise and gratitude for her daughter-in-law, Rachel Otuoma, during the footballer’s funeral.

She acknowledged that Rachel was a pillar of strength and took on the task of nursing Otuoma  with dedication after he was diagnosed with motor neurone decease.

She reflected on her own experience nursing the footballer’s father for three years, Otuoma’s mother appreciated Rachel for living true to their vows and urged her to remain connected to the family even after her husband’s death.

Rachael, thank you so much. Big thanks for carrying the burden on me. I took on the same responsibility for three years when Otuoma's dad was bedridden, and I saw the burden. May God bless you for carrying that burden.

Addressing mourners on Saturday, January 11, 2025 as Ezekiel Otuoma was laid to rest at their home in Gem Ramula, Siaya County, Otuoma's mother acknowdged their past differences and sought forgiveness.

Your house is down there. Feel welcome anytime you want to visit your husband's place. I will always welcome you. I have nothing against you. Forgive me for the past differences. May God be with you.

Donation from Ministry of Sports

A representative from the Ministry of Sports who attended the funeral shared that the Ministry had donated Sh500,000 to be shared between Rachel and the footballer’s mother.

To his family, the Ministry of Sports offers its deepest condolences. Your legacy runs forever in the hearts of those you inspired. The Ministry of Sports is giving a donation in support of Rachel and mama Ezekiel. We are giving Sh500,000. We have talked to Mama and Rachel, and they have agreed.

We have to say this because we understand what money does. We have agreed that the money will be split in half. Sh250,000 to each. We have asked them to share their accounts, and we are going to send the money to them. Just leave this money for them."

Beth Wamalwa who represented the Ministry of Sports conveyed the condolences of the principal secretary and the Cabinet Secretary and urged sportsmen and their families to raise any issues that they can support with.
