11 people were brutally murdered in North Horr Constituency, Marsabit County following a dispute over a watering point.
Reports claim that insurgents from Ethiopia deceived residents of Marsabit into attending a peace meeting before they opened fire on them.
Residents are living in fear after the attack which left 11 people dead, two wounded and four others reported missing.
Maikona Location Senior Chief Bonaya Racha said tensions ensued after the end of short rains when herders began scrambling for the ownership of a water pool on the Kenyan side.
Tricks played
After, the Ethiopians invited the Kenyans for a meeting which never happened as the latter were rounded up and 11 of them gunned down as another two were seriously wounded.
The chief blamed the attack on the security apparatus as he alleged that he had reported to the police three months ago about the tension only to be victimized.
Racha asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to help resolve the insecurity problem saying that the police vehicle which was in the area and which could have helped in the rescue mission was taken to Marsabit town, about 250 kilometres away.
Notably, the government had led an exercise to disarm police reservists an action Racha says left them vulnerable since the Ethiopians had not been disarmed.
