52 primary schools in Kisii County have been closed.
County Director of Education Pius Ng'oma said that the schools were shutdown over non registration and poor infrastructure.
This comes after Education CS Prof George Magoha ordered all schools that are unsafe for learners to be closed.
The Education CS said affected pupils will be transferred to other learning institutions.
"From now on, any school that looks like what I have shut down should be closed. Nobody should wait for us to shut them down, we have officers on the ground," Prof Magoha said.
Personal responsibility
"But in the process to be humane, that even as we shut them down, can we ensure that there are schools where the minors can be relocated to,” he continued.
He assured parents that the closure of schools and transfers would be done in a humane manner to ensure that the learners are not affected.
Prof Magoha stated that an audit of schools across the country is underway to ensure that all buildings are safe for learners.
He assured parents across the country that he had taken personal responsibility following the tragedy at Precious Talents School.
