Popular Nairobi lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi on Tuesday revealed an alleged ploy by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) director Ndegwa Muhoro to assassinate him.
Mr Abdullahi, who represented former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, in the multi-billion National Youth Service scandal, divulged that officers at the Kilimani Police Station refused to record his statement over the death threats.
After this, he opted to take the matter to Inspector General Inspector Joseph Boinnet. At the IG's office, the senior Counsel presented Boinnet a letter he received from a confidential informer, who warned him of the plot to kill him.
The threats against Ahmednassir are said to be connected to the Tatu City project case, in which he is one of the lawyers.
A close ally of Mr Ahmednassir stated:”When you see him taking such bold steps he believes the threats are genuine and real. We hope there will be genuine investigations and action”.
The IG ordered the Kilimani divisional criminal investigations officer to investigate the case.
Though the details of the letter Nassir presented to Boinnet remain scanty, sources privy to the probe noted that the missive elaborately indicated how the lawyer was to be murdered.
On Wednesday afternoon the lawyer popularly known as Grand Mullah finally recorded his statement.
