All National Police Officers have been asked to report back to work.
In a statement from Vigilance House seen by Pulselive.co.ke, police officers were requested to resume work due to the upcoming census.
"Please note that you are all directed to ensure that all officers on leave are asked to report back to their duty stations by Thursday 22-08-2019," the statement read.
"Officers will be informed on when to resume or take their leave at a later date," the statement by the Deputy Inspector General Japhet Koome added.
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics will start counting people on the night of August 24 and continue up to August 31, 2019.
Tight security
Kenyans were urged by Senator Irungu Kang'ata to move back to their rural homes during the census in order to be counted there which will aid in the distribution of resources.
"Resources will be distributed according to the number of people in an area and the need of a specific county," the Murang'a Senator said during an interview.
The purpose of the exercise is to get reliable and detailed data on the size and distribution of the population in the country.
Police will be keeping vigilance during the exercise to prevent possible attacks in cities and towns where crime rates are high.
Information being sought
Kenyans have been informed that the census enumerators and supervisors will have an official badge stating their names and ID number.
They will wear orange and maroon reflector jackets which will have a government logo on the right and a census one on the left.
Personal information regarding age, gender, date of birth, nationality/ethnicity, religion, mental status, place of birth, marital status and migration status, persons with a disability, education, and occupation will be asked.
Information regarding access and ownership of ICT equipment and services, crop farming, livestock and aquaculture, housing characteristics and ownership of assets will also be part of the questions asked.
