The Kenya Poisons and Pharmacy Board has warned Kenyans over fake Augmentin tablet that are in circulation in the country as well as in neighbouring Uganda.
The board acknowledged a statement that was earlier released by the World Health Organization which had also raised alarm over the fake drug in 2018.
Augmentin is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is often administered to treat upper and lower respiratory infections that manifest as sore throats and coughs.
The infections have become common over the past few weeks due to the chilly weather and rains being experienced all over the country.
Fake Augmentin has a red blister pack
The poisons board further advised Kenyans to be on the look out for the falsified tablets that have a red blister pack.
The Board further outlined that the falsified antibiotic has an expiry date of August 2019 and a manufacturing date of August 2016.
Thirdly, the drugs are under batch number 786627 and the stated manufacturer is Smith Kline Beecham Limited instead of the genuine manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).
Kenyans have further been asked to report any suspicious products they come across.
