Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has been stricken off the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leadership list.

In an announcement made on Tuesday, party leader Raila Odinga noted that Governor Kingi's loyalty was in question.

The immediate former ODM Kilifi County chairperson was replaced by Ganze Member of Parliament Teddy Mwambire.

Speaking shortly after confirming his new position, MP Mwambire assured ODM supporters that the switch would only strengthen the party.

Speaking on the development, Governor Kingi welcomed the party decision to remove him saying that he was grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve.

"As I respect the decision of ODM party to replace me as the Kilifi County ODM Party Chairman, I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Party and more particularly the party leader the Rt Hon. Raila Odinga for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Kilifi County ODM Chairman.

"During my tenure I steered the party to great success and made sure that the Party became the dominant party in the County a fact that was confirmed during the last general election when Kilifi County became the only County in the Country to deliver a clean sweep for the ODM Party. I hope and pray that the incoming Chair and his team will match and/or break this sterling record. I wish the Party the very best not just in Kilifi county but across the country as it prepares itself for the 2022 elections. God bless," Governor Kingi stated.

Governor Kingi on formation of new party

The ODM mercenaries have further asked Governor Kingi to declare his stand following reports that he is forming a new political outfit.

"If he is ready to leave [ODM] then he should write a letter and resign officially. I've served as his deputy for all those years and we've been making plans to ensure we grow the party between this and next month so if there's any party member with a grievance it will be addressed accordingly," the incoming chairperson outlined.
