5-storey apartment collapses in Uthiru along Naivasha Road

A five-storey building known as Espsom Apartments located along Naivasha Road in Uthiru has tragically collapsed.

The incident on Tuesday evening, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.

Kenya Red Cross has confirmed that a specialised rescue team is currently at the site, working tirelessly to assist.

Espsom Apartments is a residential building that housed numerous families. It is located opposite International Livestock Research Institute.

As of 10:00 pm, all the families except four persons had been accounted for.

The four missing persons include a nanny and two children from one household, as well as a 10-year-old girl from another residence.

The father of the girl has arrived at the scene and informed the responders that the girl was home alone

By midnight, all 34 residents of the collapsed building had been accounted for.

There were no casualties reported.

Earlier concerns about four missing residents, including a 10-year-old girl, were cleared.

The building was sinking slowly, and all the residents were able to jump out and manage to exit the building.

The Nairobi City County emergency team continued to scour the scene while awaiting assistance from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) from Kahawa Barracks to bring the sniffer dogs to ensure and eliminate any possibility of individuals trapped in the debris.

One house had a gas flame that was allowed to burn out safely.
