Raila storms police station

Raila and Wetangula come to the rescue of Babu Owino

An angry Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula stormed Parklands police station on Saturday evening demanding for the release of Embakasi East legislator Babu Owino.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) principals had no kind words for the police as they demanded to know why the Member of Parliament (MP) was behind bars, calling for his immediate release.

Odinga termed the arrest “an intimidation of NASA lawmakers” adding that “the State is using police to intimidate the opposition and we (NASA) will not allow that to happen”.

The opposition bosses also met the Parklands police chief and demanded to know why the MP was arrested.

Earlier on, University of Nairobi took to the streets, blocking roads and burning tyres in support of the legislator, forcing police to lob teargas canisters to disperse them.

Police seized Babu Owino from parliament buildings on Friday evening, putting him behind bars to face assault charges.

The MP allegedly assaulted a parking attendant at Westlands.

He will be arraigned in court to face assault charges on Monday.
